A leader rises to prominence generally because they are able to embody or articulate a people’s deepest desires. That’s why Dr. King was beloved by so many; in articulating his vision for “little Black boys and girls” to walk hand in hand with “little White boys and girls” he spoke to the very deepest desires of Black America. He was the physical embodiment of the desire we have to be one with our oppressors.

(paraphrased from Dr Amos Wilson)
